What should players bring?

Cleats, shin guards, water, a soccer ball, and weather-appropriate clothing. Keep bags and valuables with a parent.

What happens during the tryout?

Expect warmups, small-sided activities, and game play. Coaches may rotate groups or speak with players to understand their experience and decisions.

How do families learn about team selection?

The club’s published FAQ says players should normally hear by email, and sometimes phone, within 48 hours. Make sure registration contact information is accurate.

How long do we have to accept an offer?

The club asks families to respond within 48 hours of an invitation. Specific terms are provided with the offer.

What if my player wants to play up an age group?

Players should begin with their own age group's evaluation. Playing up requires the club’s approval process; review the original club guidelines below or contact the registrar.

Is financial assistance available?

The club offers financial assistance for qualifying families. View the scholarship application.

2026-2027 Tryouts

Our 2026-27 tryouts will begin May 11, 2027.  Tryouts will be held at Seton Catholic, Fort Vancouver & Felida Park.  Registration will open shortly.  Please keep checking back for more information.

2026-27 season will follow the school year format (August 1 - July 31) that is being implemented by USYS & US Club.  All leagues and clubs across the state and country are moving to this format.  For more information you can find it on our website here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring to tryouts?

Players should wear soccer appropriate clothing and equipment—including cleats and shin guards—and be prepared for changes in weather. Additionally, all players should bring water and a soccer ball.

It’s important to realize that with so many players trying out things can be hard to keep track of at the field. Keep any bags and valuables with a parent.

What should I expect at tryouts?

Include receiving a bib, having a photo taken, etc.

The main thing to expect is to play soccer and have a good time. Each lead coach for an age group has a slightly different approach to running a tryout, but generally players can expect to have some time warming up, some time in a small-sided activity (smaller group) and the majority of their time in game play (whether small-field or bigger field game).

During the tryout coaches may ask players questions. They are just trying to get a better understanding of players and being asked a question by a coach is usually a good thing. They also may move players from time to time. Coaches like to make sure other coaches get to see players, and all coaches need to see players in different situations and playing with different levels of other players.

What happens AFTER my Tryout session has ended?

The coaches will thank the players for their attendance and effort. They will also, briefly, review next steps, all of which is included in this FAQ.

When do I need to ACCEPT my spot?

We ask that families please try to accept their team spot within 48 hours of receiving the invite.  The reason behind this is because if you don't accept your spot there are others down the list to invite in your place.

Play Up Guidelines

Listed below is the process that FC Salmon Creek will be using to decide players requesting to play up a year:

  1. Players wanting to play up a year should tryout with their own age for evaluation for team placement and tryout at the requested play up age.  Placement rankings should be provided to the Club Director 
  2. A player desiring to play up should be ranked in top five and must be a starter.
  3. Players requesting to play up will attend their registered tryouts first then attend the play up tryout.
  4. We are going to adhere to the new school age guidelines for most part but will grant limited and justified play up opportunities.
  5. Players desiring to play up should be directed or referred to the Club Director before and/or during tryouts.
  6. Play up request will not be granted for players playing below the top division (blue or red)
  7. Players requesting to play up would be given opportunity to sub with a year up team if schedule allows and agreed by participating coaches.
  8. Players will not be allowed to play up simply because they want to play with friends or because they want to play for a coach, or they have done it before with our club or another club.
  9. All play up decisions will be made by the Club Coaching Director.  Do not offer play up positions unless with DOC approval.

How will I know if I've made a team?

All players should receive an email and possibly a phone call (likely for players on the top competitive teams only) within 48 hours. It is important that you list the best email address and phone number to reach you.

How can I learn about the coach of my team?

FC Salmon Creek coaches don't demand commitment, they inspire it. More than simply a coach, they are teachers, mentors, and role models who remain themselves enthusiastic students of the game.
